Madeira keeps the same clock as London, one hour behind Lisbon's neighbours on the mainland. If your company is British, Irish or European, your day is normal. US east coast means a late afternoon overlap that most people enjoy, because mornings stay free for the sea. US west coast means evening calls. Singapore or Sydney means you are working a night shift, and no view fixes that.

Where to base yourself in Funchal
Se, the old town, is the walkable option: coffee at street level, the harbour two minutes away, no car needed for anything. Sao Martinho sits above the city with the view everyone photographs, and it is quiet enough to think. Lido and Ajuda give you the promenade, the ocean pools and a lunchtime swim habit that becomes hard to give up.

EU and EEA passports need nothing.
